Money For Your Athletics Program

Hot new funding sources identified by our partners, to help you secure funding for your important PE and athletics projects:

 Lowe’s Charitable & Educational Foundation Supports Public School Projects
 Lowe’s Charitable & Educational Foundation supports K-12 public school projects including clean-up, landscaping and painting; playground enhancements; and minor repair/renovation of public school buildings. The LCEF awards more than $3 million annually to schools and other diverse organizations across the United States. The Foundation provides funding in communities where Lowe’s operates stores and distribution centers. Awards range from $5,000 to $25,000. An on-line application is the only method for submitting a request to the Lowe’s Foundation. There is a rolling deadline on a quarterly basis- you may apply now between October 16 – January 15, January 16 – April 15; April 16 – July 15; and July 16 – October 15.   Coca Cola Foundation Target Education
 The Coca-Cola Foundation can partner with you in three main areas:
 1. Higher Education: programs that encourage students to stay in school and to proceed with confidence to college and perhaps graduate school;
 2. Classroom Teaching & Learning: Innovative K-12 public school programs; smaller projects dealing with specific activities in elementary/secondary classrooms; and teacher development programs;
 3. Global Exchange: programs that promote international study or encourage education outside the United States.
 The Coca-Cola Foundation Board of Directors review funding recommendations at quarterly meetings. All requests receive a written response when the review process is complete.

 Innovating Worthy Projects Foundation
 The
IWP Foundation makes grants to organizations dedicated to serving developing innovative programs, disseminating ideas, or providing direct care or services for children with special needs, acute illnesses or chronic disabilities. The Foundation accepts grant requests from January 1, 2010 up to and including August 31, 2010. However, IWPF will consider Grant Requests not exceeding $5,000 throughout the year if funds are not exhausted from grants approved at the Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees. One Easy Tip For All Of Us Who Cannot Make Time For Fitness

Many of us did it again last year, made a New Year’s resolution to get in shape and forgot all about by the third week of January. Not to worry, we will help you find easy ways to make this year different. The one keyword to remember this year is “Move”. Think up all the ways you can incorporate physical movement in your daily busy routine. Here are some ideas:

 ♦ Walk Fido! If you are a dog owner, no easier to get fit yourself, then walking your dog
 ♦ Walk or bike with your kids to school, if that is a feasible option.
 ♦ If you are a coach, participate in some of the fitness routines with your players. Warming up and cooling down with your team is a great way to get on the path to fitness yourself.
 ♦ Glued to TV: Not a problem, we do not judge. Just use a pair of cushioned dumbbells or hand-strengtheners like the gripmaster, while you watch TV.
 ♦ At work, climb stairs instead of using the elevator.

 Yes, it is going to be a whole lot easier this year. Whether you are a busy coach, mom, dad or athlete, Just move.

Coaching Success With Smart Passing Tips

Team passing sports, such as soccer, football, hockey, require your players to work in groups to plan, organize, and win games. You can be most effective as a coach when you individualize your teaching to the needs of each player in your team. Here are some smart tips to adapt teaching passing skills to the level of the individual player:

♦ Students with lower muscular strength will be better able to throw, catch, or kick using the Flyweight Ball, Soft Strike Soccerball and Foam Football.

♦ Different sizes and colors of Balls give all students a chance to developmentally progress in their passing skills. Soccer balls come in various colors and sizes to jumpstart dribbling and shooting skills. Different lengths of Hockey Sticks allow students of various heights to play with the correct stick length. Handballs of different sizes enable students to play with the ball that is developmentally appropriate when playing team handball. Different sizes and weights of Footballs allow students with differing abilities to throw more accurately, catch more often, and participate more successfully while playing flag football

♦ Students with visual impairments and limited attention spans can use the Jingle Bell Balls or Ringing Soccer Balls to help track the ball on the field or court

Beanbags and Ruff/Ready Foam Balls are easier and safer for lesser skilled students to throw and catch

Winter Trends in Exergaming

Exergaming connects your TV with physical activity to make fitness FUN!

    Open the box, connect the included cable to your TV. Grab the game device: bowling ball, power boxing, baseball, fitness pad, dance pad, game bike and more. Then play, play, play! Newer systems allow an entire group of people to interact with the TV using a group of game devices. Imagine the fun at family gatherings, community & school events, fitness programs, rain days or when you are snowed in.

We know Cardio is good for our hearts, muscles, and circulation, but because it’s so repetitive, it can get boring fast. We pass the time by listening to iPods, watching TV or movies, reading magazines and books, and we have seen reports of people knitting on the treadmill. Exergaming is a new way to help you forget you’re exercising. One example is the Brain Bike. It’s a game device attached to a stationary bike, and there are 22 “brain-stimulating exercises” or games, that challenge your mind and memory.

Great Month for Grants for Your School

At Mansion Athletics, we can help you locate funding opportunities for your team and class. The Hilton Hotels Support Schools, Youth & Healthcare is one such that can be perfect for your institution.

The Hilton Hotels Corporation’s charitable giving interests are focused in four areas: K-12 Education Programs; Youth Programs; Health Care Programs, and Civic Affairs & Public Policy.

Agencies interested in receiving funds from the Hilton Hotels Corporation must complete the Hilton Hotels Contribution Request Application Form and provide attachments including the 501 c3 certificate, tax form 990, most recent audit, current year’s operating budget, Board of Directors list, list of the 10 most recent contributions received, an organizational description, and a project budget. Hilton does not give individual scholarships, or support for sports teams, for-profit businesses, operating deficits, hospitals, promotional materials, or conferences. The average award ranges between $2,000 and $10,000; Hilton occasionally makes larger gifts.

Hilton Hotels Corporation supports organizations that are located in communities where the company has a corporate office or a major operating presence (with primary emphasis in California and Tennessee). For support of programs out of these geographic areas, you can write to the General Manager of your local Hilton Family of Brands hotel.

Applications are accepted throughout the year, but reviewed only at Contribution Review Committee meetings (scheduled for March, June, September and December).
